Understanding and addressing ergonomically correct work conditions can assist you in minimizing work related injuries and their associated costs by providing education and motivation to participate in safe work practices.
Ergonomics is the human interaction with all aspects of our environment including the design and use of all work place tools.
In Canadian workplaces there is a great focus on the prevention of soft tissue injuries most commonly referred to as musculoskeletal injuries. Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Acts regulate the correct ergonomic working conditions and it is something all employers must be aware of in their responsibility to create safe work places for their employees.
Why ergonomics at work?
It’s common for injury and illness to happen at work. Most on-the-job injuries are caused by:
- Repetitive movements
- The way you sit or stand (posture)
- Bending over, lifting heavy objects, or using pressure or force
- Working with vibrating tools
