Feeding Others of Dartmouth: Margaret’s House

margarets_house2Feeding Others of Dartmouth: Margaret’s House is a non-profit organization that provides nutritious meals to under privileged adults, aged 16 and up, in Dartmouth. Many are physically and/or mentally challenged and most are unemployed. Feeding Others receives donations from the local churches in the form of food prepared for a day or monetary donations. Many of the churches donate one meal a month, while others send volunteers. They also receive donations from the food bank, as well as equipment donations of clothes, blankets, toys, shoes, and books from the public. Donations from Feed Nova Scotia are brought in daily and given out to the men and women who frequent Margaret’s House.

A hot lunch is offered 7 days a week from 12:00p – 12:30p, while suppers are only offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 4:30p – 5:00p, to accommodate those you can’t participate in the lunch program. On average 80-100 people are fed every day. A nurse visits twice a week to conduct routine check-ups on the participants.
